KOMET K29
K 29 Komet is the engine that in biennium 1981-82 dominated the International scene in Formula K (the category with 135 engines, created by CIK at the beginning of 80’s). Produced in Italy by Iame Group, it came from 299 K engine, intended for the American market. It is aesthetically marked out by the head shape, with parallel fins, lightly concave outlined, like that of the K 77 Komet for Class 100, produced in 70’s. Practically K 29 is a “square” engine, with a nominal bore of 55 mm (55,4 mm: at piston displacement limit), and a run of 56 mm. The mechanical structure is absolutely conventional for a kart engine of 80’s, with rotary valve induction and air cooling. The cylinder, of aluminium alloy, with cast iron inserted liner, has two double transfers.

Practically through the two transfers coming from the case the fresh mixture is injected inside the cylinder through four ports (as you clearly see on the liner picture). The head, of aluminium, too, has an hemispheric combustion chamber. The fuel system, as standard, is based on a Tillotson double diaphragm vacuum carburettor. On the homologation fiche a diameter is shown, as for the fuel system, between 24 and 35 mm.

K 29 Komet has won two World Championships (1981 and 1982) and has gained a lot of victories in Formula K and Intercontinental B (the “heavy” formula launched by CIK in 80’s, with 135 engines). In 1983 it was replaced by K30.
